Sybille Zimmermann – Capturing the Senze of Design

Last January I had the chance to personally witness the work of Sybille Zimmermann, a Santa Monica based interior designer, and owner of Design Senze.  Her portfolio has an impressive range from modern contemporary to eclectic. Drawing from her European roots, love for art, and extensive traveling, Sybille’s designs are enriched by her world of creativity.

I knew Sybille on a personal level but had never witnessed her work in action until she transformed a Hollywood Hills residence into a Rock and Roll authentic masterpiece with a contemporary twist. I was invited to a party celebrating the debut of its new look.
The design channeled an eclectic style tailored for an entertaining lifestyle. The furnishings conveyed the stylish functionality of the house, and welcomed everyone to dwell in comfort.

Here, the dinning room walls are a canvas for abstract black and white blooms, giving the feel of a post-modern snapshot of Alice in Wonderland. Dinner at this table transports you to a far away fantasy. In the music room, the walls are dressed in purple velour hosting two inviting couches with eclectic pillows.  The god of music, a colorful chalk skull, is alive and present! Its muses inspired the writings and images on the beams of the ceiling. A heavy metal beaded curtain sets apart the smoking room. In its environment one is inclined to ponder philosophical mysteries while smoking a cigar and sipping cognac.

What draws me the most is the upstairs bathroom, where the mirror reflects the accent wall collaged in pages of 1970s playboy magazines. This bathroom was designed to draw out the naughty side, and I envision bold rouge touching feminine lips in the mirror’s reflection. In this Hollywood home every room tells a story, and the journey throughout the house is simply unforgettable. The design work compels a standing ovation, and my interest demands an encore.
